•The
spadefoot has a high tolerance to water loss. It can lose up to 48% of its weight in water.
•Like
some other amphibians, the spadefoot can absorb water through its skin permeable skin and can store the water in its
urinary bladder.
•The
breeding habits of the spadefoot are sporadic due to the fact that many of the pools they breed in are only temporary.
•The
females lay their eggs in small
packets of 20-40 eggs. They
can lay as many as 800 eggs.
•The
eggs hatch in as little as 2-3
days and the development from
tadpole to adult can occur in
as little as 2 weeks.
